Please understand that you not alone; we are contacted by people who for a variety of reasons are no longer able to care for their Westies. We understand this may be a very difficult decision, but we appreciate you contacting us instead of abandoning your pet or dropping him or her off at a shelter. Hopefully our FAQ below can answer some of your questions regarding whether relinquishing your Westie to our Rescue is the correct decision for both you and your Westie.
The WHWTCSET Rescue is not a shelter in the traditional sense, we are just a few individual WHWTCSET club volunteers who retrieve Westies in need. Most of us have full time careers and perform this service in our off time because of our love for the breed. We transport dogs for Vet care, and then board them with our Vet, or foster them in our homes until placement.
If you are interested in how our process works relative to how we will place your Westie, please read through the section of our website designed for prospective adopters. We ensure that rescued Westies will be a family member who lives indoors in their new home and will never be resold or used in any illegal activity.
If you do decide to surrender your Westie to us, please review the FAQ, then click the button below it.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
I can't keep my Westie anymore, and I need to find him a new home, but I would still like to be able to visit him, or check with the new owners to see how he's doing. Can I keep a relationship with my Westie and his new family? No, in order to protect the privacy of both the surrendering family and the adopting family, both your information and the new adopting family's information is kept confidential. You will be required sign an agreement with the WHWTCSET Rescue transferring ownership of your Westie to us before we will accept him or her into our Rescue. Upon request, we will let you know whether he or she has been placed and only very general information about his or her new home; however, if you decide to relinquish your Westie to us, you have committed to parting with your pet for the remainder of his or her life.
I would really like to sell my Westie, but want to make sure he's in a good home. Will you buy him from me? No, we do not buy or pay for dogs. The WHWTCSET Rescue is a service to help place Westies in new homes when their present owners can no longer keep them. We request, but do not require, a donation to our Rescue to assist in the offsetting of costs. $75.00 is customary for spayed/neutered dogs and $100 is customary for dogs who have not been spayed or neutered. All dogs are spayed/neutered prior to placement
What is the process? 1. The Owner should complete the Intake Information Form and send it to us, and/or contact us. 2. We meet the Owner and the Westie in a mutually agreed location. 3. The Owner will sign our Release Form, provide any other pertinent documentation, and relinquish the Westie to us. 4. We evaluate and treat the Westie, and locate him a new home.
What else do I need to provide? For an easier transition into the new home, please bring any of the following items you have, as applicable: 1. Vet history or print our from your Vet's office 2.A small amount of food the dog currently eats 3. Any medicines and/or supplies you will no longer need, for example: heartworm pills, flea preventatives, grooming supplies, crates, bedding, dishes, toys leashes, collars, etc.
